Counselling

As a part of its mandate to provide supportive services to affected persons, the Motherisk Commission offers counselling to persons who have been affected by the circumstances connected with the hair testing done by the Motherisk Drug Testing Laboratory (“MDTL”).

Counselling through the Commission is completely optional. Counselling is not a requirement for receiving a legal review through the Commission, and is independent of whether a person has a legal remedy as determined by the Commission.

Legal Review

The Commission has identified a number of high priority cases for legal review. In addition, the Commission also receives requests for legal review from individuals in the community. When a case has been identified as being high priority or if a legal review is requested, the Commission obtains all of the legal documents used to make a decision in the case from the child protection agency or the court.
