Fired or Laid Off?

Date:
March 23, 2010 (62 minutes)

This webinar, presented by Karen McClellan from the Community Legal Clinic - Simcoe, Haliburton, Kawartha Lakes, looks at rights of fired or laid-off workers. The topics covered include events that constitute termination of employment, a worker's rights upon dismissal from employment, termination pay and severance, other damages related to dismissal, and how workers can enforce their rights. It outlines the steps to follow if dismissed from employment, such as taking precautionary measures, calculating or estimating termination pay, and dealing with the former employer. Finally, it deals with choosing the best legal process for enforcing rights, including the Ministry of Labour, Small Claims Court, Human Rights Tribunal, and the Canadian Human Rights Commission.
