Consumer Protection: Debt Settlement Service Agreements

Recorded on February 29, 2016 - Your charge cards are maxed out, the collection agencies keep calling, and your income is being garnished -- you need help before you sink beneath a growing pile of bills. Both credit counselling agencies and debt settlement services companies promise to help you to manage your debt repayment and get you back on your feet financially. Unfortunately, not everyone who offers to assist with your bills and credit issues has your best interests at heart. In this webinar we look at the difference between nonprofit credit counselling agencies and for-profit debt settlement companies, and explain how each type of service works to help you repay your debts. We also look at important new protections for consumers under Ontario's Collection and Debt Settlement Services Act law.
