Luke's Place is delighted to announce that our Virtual Legal Clinic will expand into Northwestern Ontario and rural Eastern Ontario.

Thanks to the Law Foundation of Ontario for funding this second phase!

The Luke's Place Virtual Legal Clinic connects woman abuse survivors to trained lawyers using video conferencing or the telephone.

The Clinic is one of the key ways Luke's Place works to improve women's safety and well-being through better legal outcomes.

Last year we worked with agencies in Northeastern Ontario to deliver this service. Women, workers and lawyers all told us they benefited from the project. Women reported that they had a greater understanding of the law and more confidence in managing their legal cases. Workers were relieved to connect clients to lawyers and reported learning lots about family law from the lawyers. The lawyers reported learning a great deal from the experience too, and said that it felt great getting legal services to people who had limited options available.

The first phase was funded by the Law Foundation, and we received support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation for developing the course for lawyers.

If you are a lawyer interested in joining the Luke's Place Virtual Legal Clinic, please contact us at projectco@lukesplace.ca.

If you are a woman in a rural or remote area of Ontario and you need family law support related to abuse in your relationship, be sure to connect with your local women’s organization and ask them about this project.

Agencies that serve rural and remote communities are encouraged to contact us as well!
