Information from the Northwestern Ontario Women's Centre: Are you, or someone you know, living with an abusive partner? Do you need access to housing for your own safety or the safety of your children? There are policies and funds available to help women in abusive situations quickly access safe affordable housing.

  • What is the Special Priority Policy (SPP) and the new Portable Housing Benefit (PHB) as it applies to women leaving abusive partners?

  • What are the eligibility criteria for SPP and / or PHB? Do I have to 'prove' abuse? Do I currently have to be residing with my abuser? What happens if I have outstanding arrears?

  • Changes to the Residential Tenancies Act (RTA) under the new provision of Ontario's Sexual Violence and Harassment Action Plan.
