From an Amnesty International article:

Julia was 3 months pregnant when she and her husband paid a smuggler to help them flee their war torn country and travel on a rusty vessel with 200 people to the safety of Canada. After a horrible two-month voyage, the boat arrived in Canada and was designated to be a human smuggling event by the Minister of Public Safety. Julia and everyone else on the boat, including 8 children were automatically arrested and detained. She was separated from her husband and both were imprisoned for one year, during which time her child is born. Both she and the child remained in detention.
