The following is taken from a press release from the Native Women's Association of Canada:

Yesterday marked the beginning of the murder trial of Robert William Pickton. The Native Women's Association of Canada would at this time like to express its support and deepest sympathies to all of the families who are grieving over their missing or murdered loved
ones.

"The trial is a reminder of the crisis in this country that there are so
many Aboriginal women missing or murdered across the country. This is not something that we as a society can just turn away from. We need to speak up against the racialized and sexualized violence that women are facing everyday," said President Beverley Jacobs.
