Toronto police are set to launch a new youth diversion program that will be fully implemented by early 2016.
Upon completion of the diversion option, such as counselling, mentoring, or an apology letter, the police will then agree not to pursue the matter against the accused youth.
After a guilty verdict, the trial judge overturned his decision three months later and entered an acquittal at what was intended to be a sentencing hearing.
