Can I work and still get income support from Ontario Works (OW) or the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP)?
Yes, as long as you:
- tell Ontario Works (OW) or Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) about any money you make
- do not make too much money
OW or ODSP looks at how much money you or someone else in your household is making from:
- a job
- a training allowance
- being self-employed
Earnings exemptions are the rules that let you earn some money without OW or ODSP reducing your income support by the full amount you earn.
In CLEO's resource Working while you are on social assistance, there is more information on earnings exemption rules. There is also information about how OW or ODSP can help with costs related to working and about benefits you might be able to get if you go off OW or ODSP because of a job.
For more information on this and other related topics, see the resources in CLEO's Social Assistance and Pensions Series.
